Film and Talk night: Weds 26th May 7.30pm

Posted in Uncategorized on May 23, 2010 by magpirates

In the November of 2004 Fallujah bore one of the most savage destructions inflicted on a civilian population by coalition forces.
This film exposes the legacy that modern war inflicts.

The weapons used in Fallujah are made, thought of and refined in the factories and offices of the US and UK.
Fallujah’s women and children are bearing the consequences,

Birth deformities in Fallujah are now averaging at 2 to 3 a day.

Joanne’s talk will focus on the scientific research that has been done so far.

The Arms Industry on our doorstep continues to inflict its brutality from the comfort of their offices, unchallenged.

The UK is the world’s second biggest arms exporter.
This is our legacy.

On the 17th of Jan 2009, during the bombing of Gaza 6 anti war activists entered the EDO/ITT arms factory and decommissioened the premises to try and save some lives in Gaza.

They are on trial in Hove in Brighton on the 7th of June, if you want to support the EDO decommissioners this is what you can do:

Raytheon 9 Film +talk by Joanne Baker

“Every bullet that is fired, every bomb that is dropped has to be made somewhere and that somewhere can be resisted”

The story of Raytheon 9, how 9 people took on an international arms company and won…inspiring film.

Plus an informative talk by Joanne Baker on the terrible consequences that the arms trade unleashes on a civilian population.

On the 17th of January 2009, during the brutal attack on Gaza 6 people entered the EDO/ITT arms factory in Brighton and decommissioned the premises rendering the factory out of action causing a quarter of a million worth of damage and closing the premises down for a month.
The EDO decommissioners are on trial on the 17th of May, they are charged with conspiracy to cause criminal damage and criminal damage of over £250,000 to the Factory.

Bristol Stop the War in conjunction with the EDO decommissioners will be showing the Raytheon 9 film at the Magpie Arts Centre on Picton St. (Ashley rd entrance) Plus Joanne Baker will be talking on the devastation inflicted on Iraq by the bombing and the occupation forces.
The Raytheon 9 film describes how, on the 12th August 2006, during the Israeli military campaign against Lebanon, 9 men stormed an arms factory in Derry, Northern Ireland. They caused an estimated £350,000 worth of damage and were arrested. They denied nothing, yet the jury acquitted them of all charges.

The evening is designed to bring awareness of the fact that these murder factories are just up the road from us in our towns and cities, masquerading as respectable businesses and getting away with the worst war crimes perpetrated in human history.
The people of Iraq Afghanistan and Palestine can only look to us, the ordinary people of this country, to expose and bring to trial these war criminals in our midsts.

MON 29th March FILM NIGHT from 8PM CONVOY!

Posted in Uncategorized on March 27, 2010 by magpirates

Truckin in a free world
Ain’t nothin’ gonna get in their way!

This Monday the 29th of March 2010 from 8pm there will be a music and film night to raise funds for the ‘frequency festival’ in portugal.

Donations for entry

Synopsis:

The CB (citizen’s band) radio fad had nearly run its course when this feel-good action film was made by director Sam Peckinpah. In the story, based on C.W. McCall‘s song “Convoy”, a group of struggling truckers (who stay in touch by CB) run into a situation which ignites their indignation. They arrange to form a truck convoy under the leadership of the man whose CB nickname is “Rubber Duck” (Kris Kristofferson). He is the most aggrieved of the bunch, having been harassed beyond the point of endurance by Lyle Wallace (Ernest Borgnine) a blackmailing traffic cop who pursues him ever more frantically through several states after he fails to submit to the phony speed trap he had set up. As news of the truck convoy spreads, unexpected allies join the line, and the now-gigantic illegal protest becomes the subject of national news reports.

Gillman Saves the Magpie from Toilet Terror

Posted in Uncategorized on August 23, 2009 by magpirates

outer

With a spurt of duchampian (sur)realism, Gillman has saved the Magpie’s looming ablution disaster. With wood, screws and his baby drill, Gillman welded abstract with practicality to avert surrealism and impending toilet doom. Here is the evidence of one abstract mind that could just not take it anymore. Come and enjoy the Magpie’s latest installation. Have a sit-down or perhaps utilise the smooth sliding action of the toilet seat hinge. Whatever floats your boat.
